Travelling Around the World行走天下
Those who like travelling surely don’t want to be a frog under a well; those who love travelling know to reap a load of experiences.
Travelling is a feast of the heart under the blue immense sky. Travelling is observation, thinking, learning and appreciation. Travelling is also a new lifestyle to look at the world from a new perspective.
Traveling around the world is a habit , a natural act. You may pack your dreams and go to a far place. You may pursue the meaning of travelling, experience a different life and go through the transformation while traveling. You may even experience strong homesickness in a strange place and hastily embark on a homeward journey.
You can always travel around the world spiritually despite living in a city. In your daily life, you may work around the clock, too busy to observe, think, learn and appreciate. The modern transportation tools take you from one place to another in a flash of time, making you easily forget the benefits of travelling. You are in no mood to appreciate the surrounding environment because your mind has been occupied by the rapid pace of life. You think that traveling is a waste of time instead of a way of experiencing the broad world and expanding the meaning of your life.
Some people believe that reading 10,000 books is less beneficial than travelling 10,000 li. But in fact, they are both equally important because you may have a superficial travel experience if you travel without reading, or you may end up being an empty talker if you read without travelling.
Without a knowledge base, you can only see the fleeting beauty of the nature and are unable to appreciate the beauty of cultural attractions. It’s somewhat regretful if you can only associate a glass of water with the relief of thirst instead of the immense Pacific Ocean, the snow-covered Arctic permafrost, the wild Sahara desert or the rainforest, or you can only associate a glass of wine with its flavor instead of the human story behind it or the nature giving birth to it.
The ancient sages set good examples of travelling around the world. Xu Xiake liked reading adventure travel books about history and geography since childhood. He began to travel from age 22 and travelled for 34 years until death. With footprints left in most places of China, he finally completed A Travel Book of Xu Xiake, a renowned literature book in geography. Sima Qian studied hard since he’s a teenager. To write the Records of the Grand Historian, Sima Qian began to travel around China since age 20 to personally interview local people, conduct field trips and gain much first-hand information. Since childhood, Li Bai had begun to read everything including Confucian classics, ancient literature and history and books about philosophers. Since age 24, Li Bai left his home town for Sichuan and many other places, leaving umerous magnificent, elegant and immortal poems.
No time and no money cannot be your excuses for not travelling.
Neither the limited reading experience nor an older age can be your biggest obstacle. They key to travelling around the world is actually your determination to embark on a journey.
