Cars in the Movie of“Need For Speed”
“Need For Speed”– a well-known name among cars lovers and TV gamers. In March 2014, the long lasting name has shown in cinemas. The name is well-know is because it is originated from a popular TV game of the type dated back to 1994. The game is a 101 textbook for super cars to many of the teenagers and gamers. When we have grown up, we found that it is not easy to witness such cars in the real world due to the limited production and millions dollars of selling prices.
The movie showed us how these cars looks like. This issue we are going to give some more information on some of the cars in the movie.
Ford Shelby Mustang GT500
The car made by the main character in the movie, and was sold at USD2.7 million in the movie. Carroll Shelby was a legendary American car racer in the late 1950s. He is also a gifted car designer who created some of the best performancecars in early 60s. He continued to design until the day he passed away in 2012. In fact, he had been working on the 50th anniversary edition of the Ford Mustang when he died. His car designs are as beautiful as they are powerful and factory stock versions.
Powered with a 5.8L V8 supercharged engine, this Mustang is backed with 662 horsepower and a maximum speed of 325 km/h can be reached. For acceleration, various tests results showed the car can run from 0-100km/h at 3.3-3.5 seconds, and takes another 8 seconds to reach over 200km/h.
Lamborghini Sesto Elemento
The car used by the rival character in the final race of the movie. The selling price was ranged from USD2.2-2.9 million. Despite the price is few times higher than normal Lamborghini, the marque announced in late 2012 that, only 20 cars of this model have been built all have been sold out. The name of the car is a reference to the sixth element on the periodic table – carbon. This name is adopted because the extensive use of carbon, resulting an extreme light weight for a super car. With only 999kg of weight, which is comparable to the compact Japanese car, Honda’s Fit (1,060 kg).
Elemento is equipped with a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. Same as Gallardo, the 5.2-L V10 engine generates a 570 horsepower. Its chassis, body, drive shaft and suspensioncomponents are all made of carbon fiber to reduce the weight. The above specification enables Elemento to record a 2.5 seconds time for 0-100 km/h acceleration.
